I being a bio student have a special love for digital microscopes because I love putting everything possible under a scope. When I came across the Dino Lite AM413T Digital Microscope I found myself hooked.

I have always liked Dino Lite as they provide the best products. The DinoLite AM413T Digital Microscope is small, handy and easy to use. Though it has just 1.3 megapixels its color resolution is impeccable. You can also control the magnification by using its measurement function where you can feed the magnification value for the object to be viewed.

When I went to purchase this Digital Microscope I was presented with different types of models. There was a plastic body model, the AM211 version has VGA-resolution with 4 LED lights and the AM411 and AM413 models have an aluminum alloy based body. I decided to buy the aluminum alloy bodied model as I personally liked the look and the feel of that model.

I was pretty surprised with the ease of use of the Dino Lite AM413T Digital Microscope. It is so small that you can easily hold it in your hand. It has a metal tube which comes with a ring through which you can change the setting for magnification or though the focus on the barrel. There is also a plastic cover to hem-in small or minute objects. You will find a USB cable on the top of the device. To avoid the handshake you can get a stand for this device, either a plastic base with gooseneck arm and plastic mount or a high tech metal base which comes with a high precision mount.

With Dino Lite AM413T Digital Microscope you can get magnification focuses at 50x to 60x and 200x to 210x. When you use the plastic cap to view the smaller objects, a continuous magnification can be achieved in the entire range. The LED lights are useful when the object to be viewed is close enough, as the LED lights illuminates just about 3 inches from its lens.

All microscopic images can be viewed and analyzed thorough this software with the help of its measurement and annotation tools. The software also allows you to view any image and capture still photographs and make a video up to 30fps or time-lapse.

However, the software provided with the Dino Lite AM413T is pretty basic and there are certain shortcomings like the data regarding the current magnification level is not transferred from the scope to the software, because of which the magnification level has to be entered manually. You can’t even save or export the measurement data and merely use it as labels. Also, the white balance is highly sensitive to the ambient light and there is lack of uniformity in the white balance and exposure; however despite this the images come out to be of a good quality.
